AIM-AHEAD & AIHEC Aware, Master, Catalyze (AMC) Program

The American Indian Higher Education Consortium (AIHEC), in partnership with AIM-AHEAD, is building sustainable artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) capacity across Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs).

The Aware, Master, Catalyze (AMC) Program was developed to provide TCU faculty, staff, and professionals with a foundational understanding of artificial intelligence, its potential to advance health outcomes, and the skills needed to translate that knowledge into teaching and institutional activities. The program emphasized AI applications relevant to healthcare while maintaining a strong focus on American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) health contexts.

Program Goals

Build a foundation in AI concepts, techniques, and tools relevant to healthcare.

Gain proficiency with AI tools that can be applied in healthcare settings.

Apply AI-based clinical decision-support tools to improve health.

Apply AI knowledge to projects that improve healthcare and benefit patients and healthcare organizations.

Translate AI knowledge into pedagogical topics, modules, courses, and extracurricular activities.

Program Awardees

The AIHEC-Aware, Master, Catalyze (AMC) Program aims to equip learners with comprehensive knowledge and essential skills related to AI in healthcare. This program provides tribal college faculty and staff with the insights needed to critically understand AI trends, evaluate AI-enabled opportunities to enhance health outcomes, develop implementation strategies, and disseminate AI knowledge in their organizations, communities, and classes. The AMC program is designed to meet the needs of staff, faculty, and professionals from Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCU).

Cohort 1 Outcomes

Nine faculty, staff, and executives participated in AMC. Program evaluation demonstrated substantial gains in participant confidence across AI/ML activities. Participants reported increased ability to identify AI concepts, present AI/ML concepts, apply AI knowledge, use AI tools, translate AI knowledge into practice, and apply AI-based clinical tools.
