AIM-AHEAD Leadership Core

About the West Hub

The purpose of the West Hub is to promote community engagement around AI/ML awareness and expand knowledge among community health stakeholders.

This work is carried out through partnerships with community-based organizations and health systems across the AIM-AHEAD Western region. The West Hub also supports pilot projects led by principal investigators affiliated with academic institutions and community organizations in the region.

Hub-Specific Projects

West Hub Consortium Development Pilot Project Research

West Hub supports the Providence Health–led CURE-CKD Pilot by leveraging the combined research, clinical, and data capabilities of Providence and UCLA. Through collaborative infrastructure and large-scale electronic health record data, the initiative advances research, quality improvement, and system-level strategies to improve detection, care, and outcomes for patients with or at risk for chronic kidney disease.

  • Los Angeles County Health Technology Navigators training on digital health, AI/ML Curriculum for other safety net health systems to also use.

  • AI/ML awareness for safety net health system staff - zoom webinar or in-person events (e.g. conversation café).

  • Project-based financial reports including sub-awards to align with the project plan and any subsequent adjustments.

Our team provides education and community outreach, having established 30+ partnerships, hosted webinars and meetings on AI/ML, and provides tailored mentorship and networking for fellows. We organize Tech Forums, Conversation Cafés, and AI/ML Learning Seminars; promote and disseminate the Health Technology Navigators Program; and collaborate with the LA County Department of Health Services and Charles R. Drew University.

Through events such as monthly community engagement sessions, UCLA DoM LA Summit, UCLA Biomedical AI in Action Symposium, UCLA Department of Medicine Research Day, American Society of Nephrology Kidney Week, SoCal Regional Dissemination, Implementation and Improvement Science Symposium , Weitzman Institute’s virtual webinar panel AI fundamentals and Application in Primary Care, Duke CERI’s panel Community-Centered AI Innovations.

We offer opportunities to AIM-AHEAD awardees, partner organizations, and other collaborators to share knowledge, disseminate progress and results on research, and receive feedback from the community. This is also space for researchers and experts in AI to host workshops on AI/ML use and practical application into work and daily use.
