aiMATCH Hands-on Workshops Launch Module 2 on AIM-AHEAD Connect

The AIM-AHEAD Data and Infrastructure Capacity Building (DICB) Program awardee team from The University of Texas at San Antonio is leading the aiMATCH Hands-on Workshops on AIM-AHEAD Connect, developed to provide a practical introduction to artificial intelligence in biomedical research. The series integrates theoretical concepts with interactive tutorials, guiding participants in evaluating and applying AI methods across various data modalities, including text, electronic health records (EHRs), and medical images.

Each workshop module can serve as an independent learning opportunity or as part of a comprehensive sequence exploring how AI and machine learning are transforming healthcare research and practice. The flexible, modular design allows participants to engage with topics that best align with their professional focus, whether in clinical care, research, or data science.

On September 23, 2025, the second module in the aiMATCH Hands-on Workshop series, Geospatial Analysis, was released on AIM-AHEAD Connect. This module introduces methods for geospatial analysis in healthcare research, including preparing and cleaning claims data, defining spatial relationships, and applying measures of spatial dependence using RStudio.

Through step-by-step exercises and guided workflows, participants examine clustering patterns in healthcare outcomes, construct and interpret spatial weights, and address key analytical challenges such as the Modifiable Areal Unit Problem (MAUP) and data quality limitations.

The aiMATCH team is currently working to develop Module 3: Predictive Modeling with Acute Myeloid Leukemia Clinical + Proteomic Data. Additional details will be shared soon, and enrolled participants in the aiMATCH Hands-on Workshop course will be notified once the new module is available.
